Holy Shit - They're Gonna Do WrestleMania From An Empty WWE Performance Center
If it wasn't blatantly obvious by the past few weeks - we are now officially living in the strangest timeline OF ALL TIME!
“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”
Outrageous. Absolutely outrageous.
I'm sure they'll spruce it up like they did for SmackDown on Friday (and like they'll do for RAW tonight), but I just can't wrap my head around WrestleMania 33 happening here...
...WrestleMania 34 happening here...
...WrestleMania 35 happening here...
...and then WrestleMania 36 happening here...
I don't know the first thing about the coronavirus, the current state of the economy, large-scale event planning through a pandemic, advertising contracts, or what the WWE should be doing in this scenario, but my heart says that I wish they'd just postpone WrestleMania until they were able to do it in front of - at the very least - an arena full of fans. It doesn't have to be a stadium! Just an arena. I think it'd actually be awesome to go back to the arena vibe for such a massive show...and I think eight hours of wrestling to no crowd reaction at all would get old real quick.
Why not cancel 'Hell in a Cell' or whatever the September/October pay-per-view is and put WrestleMania in its place? Guarantee the city of Tampa WrestleMania in 2022 (because the deal is already made for Mania at SoFi Stadium in LA next year) and do a quarantine-themed event from the Performance Center on WrestleMania's planned date blowing off all of the WM feuds. That way, the whole sanctity and legacy of the event isn't just crumbled up and thrown into the trash can Medusa threw the WWF Women's Championship into! Think of how it'll look in the history books, here, Vince! Think of the history books! What is WrestleMania without its fans?!
I really wasn't expecting much outta WrestleMania this year pre-coronavirus, but now, I officially think we're gonna just pretend WrestleMania 36 never happened when it's all said and done...or maybe we'll just forget. I imagine it'll have those non-canon Saudi event vibes. Oh well.
Call it the Brendan Dassey experience - a year without WrestleMania!
